History
Takht Sri Patna Sahib, also known as Har Mandir Sahib Patna, is located in Patna City (Patna Sahib), Bihar. It marks the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth and final human Guru of the Sikhs.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born on 22 December 1666 (Poh Sudi Saptami) at this location. His father, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji (9th Guru), had passed through Patna with his family while on a journey to preach Sikhism in eastern India and Bengal. Guru Gobind Singh Ji spent the first four years of his life in Patna before moving to Anandpur Sahib.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji (1st Guru) had also visited Patna during his travels (Udasis), and the city has been blessed by multiple Gurus. The present Gurdwara was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the early 19th century on the site of the house where Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born.
The Takht houses several sacred relics of Guru Gobind Singh Ji from his childhood, including iron arrows, a small steel shield, a pair of sandals (Pauyan), a sword, a iron cradle, and a scroll of Dasam Granth written by the Guru himself.
